From April 21 to May 2, 2025, Association Tinhinan took part in the 24th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, held at UN Headquarters in New York. The session focused on the implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, good practices observed, and the challenges faced by states and the UN system.
Alongside the official sessions, our association was also invited by several partners to speak at three international events dedicated to peace, health, biodiversity, and Indigenous knowledge.
Consolidating Indigenous Peace
On April 24, the association took part in the gathering “Consolidating Indigenous Peace as a Path Toward Healing for Peoples, Peace, and the Planet,” organized by the Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network together with several international partners. Dr. Mariam Wallet Aboubakrine presented the experience of Indigenous peoples of the Sahel in conflict prevention and peacebuilding, highlighting the essential role of Indigenous women in mediation, community resilience, and carrying messages of hope.
Tinhinan also took part in a strategic meeting on peace and planetary health. The discussions served as a reminder that the health of populations, the protection of territories, the preservation of ecosystems, and peace are closely interconnected.
The association advocated for an approach that fully recognizes the knowledge, practices, and experiences of Indigenous peoples in the search for sustainable solutions.
Biodiversity, Knowledge, and Traditional Medicine
Finally, Association Tinhinan took part in the strategic dialogue “Indigenous Peoples, Biodiversity, Traditional Knowledge, and Traditional Medicine in Global Policy Frameworks,” co-organized notably by the World Health Organization, the Permanent Mission of Chile to the United Nations, and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
We advocated for greater recognition of traditional knowledge and medicine, their transmission to future generations, and their integration into health and biodiversity policy.
