UN Expert Group Meeting — UNDESA-UNPFII

In early December 2025, Tinhinan was invited to take part in an international United Nations Expert Group Meeting titled “Recognition of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in the Context of the Climate Crisis, Biodiversity Governance, and Territorial Integrity: Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Peoples, Including Pastoralists and Itinerant Farmers.”

During this meeting, our president, Dr. Mariam Wallet Aboubakrine, shared findings from several research projects carried out with communities in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, notably as part of the Ârramăt Project (2022–2025). These discussions highlighted the essential role of pastoral mobility in sustainable land management, the growing impact of climate and security crises on pastoral populations, and the wealth of traditional knowledge as a foundation for resilience, food security, and biodiversity.
