Black History Month 2026 was an important moment of engagement for Association Tinhinan, marked first by our participation in the community’s official celebrations, and then by an event we organized ourselves for students and young professionals.
On February 1, Association Tinhinan took part in the official launch of Black History Month, organized by Black History Ottawa, marking the organization’s 40th anniversary of promoting and celebrating Black community history in the Ottawa region. The event brought together community leaders, organizations, and members around a moment of celebration and recognition. Association Tinhinan was honoured to join the celebration alongside the broader community in marking this milestone anniversary.

On February 27, Association Tinhinan hosted “Professional Pathways and Leadership: Sharing, Learning, and Growing Together” at the Maison de la francophonie d’Ottawa, in collaboration with Manssah x Ottawa x Nkrumah, GSPIA-ESAPI, AEBUO, and the Ivorian Students’ Association of the University of Ottawa. The gathering brought together students, young professionals, and community members for rich discussions on entering the workforce, the challenges of professional career paths, and experiences of racism and systemic barriers that can shape career trajectories. Speakers also emphasized the importance of leadership and mentorship, encouraging students in particular to get involved in volunteer activities to build experience, expand their networks, and strengthen their professional skills. The event closed on a warm note with a networking reception, giving participants the chance to continue conversations and build new connections within the community.
