As part of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL, 2022–2032), and in response to interest expressed by several of our members, Association Tinhinan once again renewed its innovative Tamasheq language course this year.
Every Saturday, from July 12 to August 16, 2025, children from Kel Tamasheq and other communities, coming from several Canadian cities and even from abroad, were able to take part in free language classes. During this second training session, brilliantly led by Ahiya Kourouza with the assistance of Ghabdoulahi Samro, the children learned the basics of the Tamasheq language through greetings and simple conversation, along with a wealth of information about Tamasheq culture. Through language games, traditional stories, and lively exchanges, they discovered the sounds, the writing system, and the values carried by the Tamasheq language. This wonderful program goes beyond simple language learning: it embodies a true act of transmission, identity recognition, and intercultural dialogue, while contributing to the promotion, preservation, and revitalization of the Tamasheq language.
